What is Face Fit (Face2Fit)?
A test to ensure a wearers RPE is fitted correctly to minimise the risk of airborne hazards such as dust, gases, and particulates.
The type of Face Fit mask being worn will determine which of two tests, Qualitative or Quantitative is performed. A Training First Safety adviser can help you determine which test you need.
The serious bit
Equipment not fitted correctly can be extremely dangerous. Diseases such as lung cancer, asthma, COPD and silicosis can be contracted from construction dust yet, it is estimated that 50% of RPE equipment is not worn or fitted correctly allowing the inhalation of dangerous dust particles and gases.
The legal bit
You are required under The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations to protect against the risk of hazardous substances and to ensure that workers using tight fitting respiratory protective equipment are fit tested by a competent person.
