    Overview This course highlights potential hazards when working on site and provides practical advice on keeping yourself and your colleagues safe. It covers your individual and employer’s responsibilities, including what you can do if you think anyone’s health and safety is being put at risk. At the end of the course you will have an understanding of:
    • the need to prevent accidents
    • health and safety law
    • how your role fits into the control and management of the site risk assessments and method statements
    • performing safely and asking for advice
    • how to report unsafe acts to prevent an accident
    Certification for this course is valid for 5 years. To remain certified in this area, you will need to retake the course before the expiry date
     
  • Fire Marshall

    The Fire Marshal course is to provide personnel with a knowledge of how to prevent a fire from happening and the duties of a fire marshal in the workplace. The fire marshal training course consists of both theory and practical sessions which include: • Fire Procedures Duties of a Fire warden/marshal • Fire prevention • Using Fire extinguishers & Types of extinguishers • Action on discovering a fire • Common causes of fire • Fire drills and evacuation • Fire safety legislation • Fire safety precautions • The chemistry of fire Upon successful completion of the CIEH fire safety awareness training course, you will be entitled to a Certificate of completion. Who Should Attend? Personnel who will be responsible for the role of a fire warden/fire marshal would benefit from taking this training course.

     To provide delegates with an understanding of current relevant legislation in order to be able to thoroughly inspect ladders and stepladders, identifying safety critical faults and to record equipment details and inspections as outlined in PUWER. This course will cover :

    • Inspection of Ladders and Stepladders

    • Assessment
    Who Should attend? Managers and supervisors who require the knowledge and practical skills to thoroughly inspect and maintain ladders and stepladders. It is a requirement to have successfully passed the Ladders & Stepladders training course and have a valid LadderCard prior to attending the Inspection course.

    • Determining if a ladder/step ladder is the right equipment to use using the 3 point ‘hierarchy of control’ risk assessment guide

    • Carrying out pre-use inspections with ladder tag systems, how often these must be done and who is responsible for them
    • How to use equipment safely to minimise risk – sensible safety precautions
    • Storage, maintenance and keeping kit safe and legal
    • Importance of issuing and using correct PPE
    • How to select the correct classified equipment for a task and inspection procedures
    • Practical sessions throughout
    • Test paper/questions/ handouts and review
    This course covers using a ladders and steps while working at height, we recommend delegates are trained in working at height which is a separate course and covers all aspects of working at height.
  • Manual Handling is the moving of any load by bodily force, including lifting, putting down, pushing, pulling or carrying. All employees by law should be trained in the correct techniques in association with the product/equipment they will be using during the working day.

    H&S Laws & Regulations – Manual handling Operation Regulations 1992 (amended 2002)
    • The responsibilities of the employer and employee
    • What exactly is manual handling, and what types of injuries can occur
    • Good posture, biology of the back, combined with how you should look after it
    • Techniques for lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling and carrying loads
    • Risk factors and how injuries can occur
    • Mechanical Aids available on the market to assist with your manual handling assessments
    • The importance of issuing and using the correct PPE  for the task product and sequence of works
    • Importance of adhering to your existing company Manual Handling policy

  • What is Emergency First Aid at Work?

    The Emergency First Aid at Work training syllabus covers:
    • Understand the role and responsibilities of the first aider
    • Recording and reporting of accidents and incidents including RIDDOR
    • Contents of a first aid kit (including preventing cross infection)
    Assessing the situation and acting safely, effectively and promptly in an emergency. Administer first aid to a casualty who is/requires:
    • Unconscious (including seizure)
    • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
    • Choking
    • Wounded and bleeding
    • Suffering from shock
    Appropriate first aid for minor injuries including minor cuts, grazes, bruises, small splinters, minor burns and scalds In addition, discussion of specific work related injuries/illness to include topics such as –
    • Anaphylactic Shock
    • Stroke
    • Asthma
    • Heart Attack including Angina
    • Diabetes
    • Fractures
  • This course covers the full syllabus, as outlined by the First Aid Approved Code of Practice 2009. The course will teach the student how to deal with:-
    • Resuscitation
    • Bleeding
    • Care of the unconscious casualty
    • Shock
    • Hypoxia
    • Diabetic and epileptic emergencies
    • Burns
    • Fractures
    • Poisoning
    • Infection control
    • Simple record keeping.
    A certificate and wallet credit card will be awarded on a successful assessment on completion of the course. The qualification is valid for 3 years.
  • This First Aid at Work Requalification syllabus covers the same topics as those in the initial First Aid at Work course. Learning Outcomes In accordance with Appendix 5 & 6 of the H&S (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 Unit 1 covers the following topics:
    • roles and responsibilities of a first aider;
    • cross-infection
    • recording incidents & actions;
    • use of available equipment;
    • assessing an incident;
    • unconscious casualties (including seizure);
    • cardiopulmonary resuscitation;
    • safe use of an automated external defibrillator;

    Certification Successful candidates will be awarded the FRFA Level 3 First Aid at Work certificate valid for 3 years
