• Vehicle Banksman:

    This course aims to instruct you as an operative to safely conduct vehicle signalling operations. Who Should Attend? Any person who as part of their work duties may need to direct traffic. What Will I Learn? At the end of the course you will be able to: Identify relevant legislation and guidance Correctly demonstrate approved signals Identify hazards associated with signalling operations Explain why effective communication is needed between driver and banksman.

    The A31 Ride on Roller course is delivered through a combination of classroom-based learning and practical training.

    Course Structure

    • Set roller for travel
    • Awareness of on-site hazards
    • Set the roller for compaction duties
    • Place roller in an out of service condition
    • Recognise compacted/uncompacted areas
    • Conditions that may cause instability of the roller
    • Safety procedures when working up to unsupported edges
    • Loading and unloading procedures on/off a transporter

    • Understand fully excavator controls and terminology utilised by a competent operator
    • Maintain safe working conditions of an excavator operator
    • Explore and analyse important legislation, guidance, and regulations
    • Carry out pre-use checks and check equipment for function and serviceability
    • Display the ability to use the machine to safely traverse over rough and undulating ground, as well as sizable inclines and level surfaces
    • Operate and manoeuvre safely and efficiently within confined spaces
    • Excavate differing types of excavations in diverse ground conditions
    • Load and safely place various materials into vehicles/hoppers for transport
    • Plain, spread, level and grade various ground materials
    • Understand manufacturer requirements in order to attach and remove attachments, such as buckets
    • Safely lift, move and place basic slung loads
    • Demonstrate and safely carry out both shut down and securing procedures
